Why so many draws?
African leagues score fewer goals: 2.12 a match against 2.71 elsewhere. With fewer goals, more matches stay level, and more draws are goalless. 44% of African draws finish 0-0.
Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa
South Africa's Premier Soccer League ends level in 33.0% of matches, 4th in the world. Ghana's Premier League is at 26.4% and Nigeria's NPFL at 23.9% across all seasons, close to the world average.

Every figure is counted from finished league matches in the SoccerDraws database, across all seasons we hold (almost all from 2010 onwards). Only leagues with at least 2,000 matches are included, so each figure rests on plenty of matches. Cups and friendlies are left out. A match counts as a draw when the scores are level at full time.
These are records of what has happened. They describe the past and do not predict any future match.
